It really started off as problems at school. I found it challenging to focus on tasks I deem unimportant, mundane, or tedious at school. I was barely doing any studying until days before the exams. I skip most lectures, and for pass-fail modules, the motivation to work is even lower. It was my modus operandi.
I have studied a whole semester’s worth of materials in two sleepless nights based on a summary. I only spent two nights studying, so I considered my eventual result of B- excellent. I do this so many times, always at the edge of failure.
People may argue that such studying methods are maladaptive. However, the real story is not as simple. This ability allowed me to juggle a part-time job and other disparate interests. It was a pragmatic response to circumstances and allowed the acquisition of a more expansive repertoire of knowledge and skills useful later.
But I knew it was a problem, which I resolved to manage when I started work.
